a new beastie with LOADS of wool! [01 Jan 2007|03:58pm]

hello! my name is danie and, obviously i am new to this community. i have been crochetting for about seven years now and it has been limited to blankets, scarves and hats for that time. recently though, i have learned about Japanese Amigurumi and have fallen in love. i bought some books off of the internet. obviously, if you have looked at the photo, i do not speak the language they are in. i can imagine if i study them well enough i could get the hang of it, but my concern is that i am still feeling a bit less-than-confidant in making things that do not go in continuous lines and make flat things. well, what i am asking for here is if any of you lovlies have any links or recipes for crochet patterns that i can make creatures from. i just want to have the general idea for making a head, body, arms... things in general.

it would be grately appreciated!

For Sale :) [29 Jul 2006|12:48am]

These were an order that was never finalized. I am in need of money and would be thrilled if anyone wants them.

I present to you - extra large wool shorts; waist is knit, stretchy and 18" unstretched. There is a drawstring. Hips are 28", body and trim is crocheted. The inseam is 4 1/2". They are made of 100% Treliske organic New Zealand merino wool, purchased in natural. The blue part is an original color that I handdyed using blueberries and food coloring. My diaper covers have a seam on the butt - you can see examples of the fit on my kids in longies I've made here, here, and here.

My 2 1/2 year old fits in these (we tried them on briefly, they are still unlanolized), and he is somewhat petite - but they are kind of baggy on him. A more solid kid would fill them out better, or maybe you are one who likes them roomy.

My husband took these and I don't think they do them justice (I always fuss around to make them look exactly symmetrical and perfect), but hey -

the back and a color closeup, behind the cutCollapse )

I'm asking $45 ppd, and willing to ship first thing Monday morning. If I had the order in time I could hand them to the mailman tomorrow since we're finally set up with a postage scale, but Monday (with priority and delivery confirmation) at the latest :) Or, if you'd like them to come to you lanolized (and smelling of peppermint) I could mail them Tuesday/Wednesday depending on drying speed.

Open for Customs [22 Jul 2006|04:31pm]

Hey everybody :) I'm opening for custom orders again, what with my kids' birthday crafts all done with.

If you are interested in one or more dolls (fairy, mermaid or witch/wizard is fine), a hat, or sushi, comment. I anticipate you'll have 1-2 dolls within a week or a hat within a week, sushi within 2 weeks.

Dolls are $25
Basic beanie style hats are $15 - if you want something fancier, we'll talk about it.
sushi (full set with several of a couple of kinds, comes to you in a chinese takeout food box with chopsticks) is $30

All prices include shipping, first come first served, and I'm not liable for any injuries you suffer running to your mailbox frantically when you see a package sticking out of it.

Special Sale [16 May 2006|04:43pm]

I want to get the dolls I've made out of here - I have 2 mermaids, a witch and a wizard just sitting here with kids' birthday expenses coming up. So I'm offering them this week for $20 *including shipping* (regular price is $25 plus shipping).

I'm also offering a boy and a girl fairy doll that someone ordered from me as custom Easter presents and then never paid for, and I'm willing to let those go at $15 each including shipping. Pictures behind the cut.

They're all available individually, but I'll be happy to take off an extra $2.50 for each additional doll purchased (combined shipping).

[12 Mar 2006|06:06pm]

Hey Tina...

Do you still make sushi? I was wondering if you'd be interested in some little plastic sushi trays to package your sushi toys in? Jeremy brings home sushi all the time, and I always save the little trays for the kids to play with. I've got some extra lying around, and we can always save them for you as they come in. I'm sure you've got other sushi lovers on your list who would be willing to help too.

Let me know. :)

Dyeing wools, and what to use? [04 Mar 2006|09:18pm]

Tina, (I think that is your name)
I am into dyeing my own yarn, I only use Merino wool, I was wondering what do you use to dye wool? I heard that kool-aid is a great and cheap way to dye wool. What do you use?

Fairy dolls [22 Feb 2006|02:29pm]

This is a picture of the fairy dolls Tina made for my girls for Christmas. She put a lot of thought into making each doll not only kind of look like each girl (like the hair color), but also into making the dolls match their personalities. The girls really like these dolls (my girls are three, four, and five years old).

So...it's been forever since anyone posted in here, but I wanted to say a few things. [21 Feb 2006|11:46pm]

1. I mailed out several orders in December and January. If anyone has pictures of their kids modeling/playing with anything, or just shots of their stuff, I would love to see. It can be emailed if you don't want to share with the world (altarflame at yahoo) or you can post in the comments, or in a new post. I'm especially wondering how longies are fitting kids, since I've never seen them on anyone but my own.

2. I have a refund pending for evrydayjnglbtch and am going to send ididntso's shorts, with or without the hat, this week. Because it's just been ridiculous, how long she's waited. I'm sorry Becca...I really, really underestimated how much my time management was going to change when Jake was born, and how my motivation was going to fly out the window :/

3. I am "open" for doll orders. They seem to be the only thing I enjoy making and/or can crack out in a reasonable about of time, so for now, they are it. Other than one order for 3 that I'll be making as an Easter present for someone, I've got nothing going on. So if you want a doll, this is the time.

From Ash Wednesday (March 1) until Easter, I'm only going to be online on Sundays. So I will be reachable by email...if you can wait until Sundays ;)

And, I wanted to share some woodland fairies I made for my oldest two kids, Ananda and Aaron :)

Customs List [05 Oct 2005|11:46am]

Hey everyone - I want to apologize for some delays. I've been going through crazily frustrating prodromal (start and stop) early labor for a couple of weeks now. But it never continues! It's gotten me to the point that I feel like I'm going to lose my mind (contractions waking me up all night long and then continuing every 4 minutes for the first half of the day...only to peter out. Or starting in the day and continuing for *36 hours*...all for nought).

I HAVE been working again, a lot, though, for the past two days. I should have boxcarbecca's order and zoeparker's orders finished soon, so that I can get evrydayjnglbtch's and jillene's first doll done.

Basically I've decided I'm not paying any attention to any pain that isn't debilitating, and I'll pretend all is normal until there is a head crowning :p Overdue Shmoverdue and all that.

Various Updates [08 Sep 2005|01:14am]

Hello Everyone :) I'm sorry I've not updated in so long, and about any delays any of you are facing. Here are some updates for people on my list:

-misskerri - I FINALLY won the blasted auction and got your yarn :p
-zoeparker - I have all of your yarn as well, and did get Zoe's measurements from you, but I'm having a heck of a time finding dyeing materials in season now. I haven't given up yet, but will be emailing you about alternative fruits and vegetables in the next couple of days if I don't find anything.
-boxcarbecca - Your shorts and hats should be shipped by next week. I really hope you like them, and am hoping to throw in an extra or two for your trouble ;)
-evrydayjnglbtch - I've started on your veggies and should have a photo for you soon :)

It should be about 2 weeks before all of this is done and I'm making sushi for madamemonday (assuming she's still interested) and the October doll, for jillene. Then I have a doll to make for norwegian_wood, and that about wraps it up until my "after hiatus" slots (November and December).

I've been slowed down a little from my rapid pace by wrongly estimating yarn quantities for dyeing, the first time I did it, not being able to find materials in season (I really should have thought of that more) and also, I'll admit, general 36 1/2 week pregant feelings of to-the-bone tiredness. But I'm still excited about all of these projects, and greatful to all of you for helping me get off the ground and establish myself :)

The next post will have pictures!

Zoeparker! [15 Aug 2005|03:33pm]

[ mood | excited ]

Let me know what you think of her :)

+4 moreCollapse )

If you think her hair is too long, I can cut some of it (or you could). I really like all the hair, but the doll isn't for ME, after all :p I felt like it passed some sort of inspection this morning when Ananda came out and saw her and fell in love - she REALLY wants one now. I have a feeling I'm going to be MAKING a lot of their christmas presents this year, since they think they need everything they see me making lately...

Boxcarbecca! [12 Aug 2005|07:37pm]

Your yarn came today. It is THE SOFTEST yarn I've ever felt, wool or otherwise. And slightly finer than what I would normally call worsted. I picked up blueberries yesterday, and will be making the salt fixative to soak your wool in shortly, and then letting it soak overnight :) I should have pictures for you in the next couple of days.
